An extraction is the process of removing a tooth or tooth parts from the mouth. Extractions are performed for a variety of reasons such as severe tooth decay that has destoryed so much tooth structure that a resortation would not help restore the tooth. Extractions of wisdom teeth are commonly performed, as well as extractions for orthodonic treatment to prevent crowding of teeth.
